HyperX Cozy Cat Keycap
Summary
A cute kitty keycap. If you need a cozy winter kitty to deck out your keyboard, then this is a cute one.
Drop Skylight Series Keycap Set R2
Summary
Quality keycaps sculpted well, and backlight enabled. Would like to see paper and cardboard trays for storing and shipping rather than plastic to be more environmentally forward on a product that is, well, always likely to be plastic.
HyperX Cozy Cat and Drop Skylight Series Keycaps Review
The outstanding Drop Paragon Shogun keyboard that has become my main input device since its arrival wasn’t perfect from the start. As beautiful as the finely sculptured keycaps were, their beautiful GMK Red Samurai etched images were not as functional for content creation in my situation as I would like. The lack of backlighting made special characters require a hunt rather than a glance. For gamers, the Shogun’s GMK Red Samurai keycaps might work well, but they weren’t for me.
Drop solved the problem with the Skylight Series Keycap Set R2 that allowed the excellent backlighting on the Shogun to shine through. The 65% keyboard is now fully functional for my needs, and as I state in the Shogun keyboard review, the best typing experience I have ever had.
But I’m not hooked on playing with my keyboard, after removing all 67 keycaps and replacing them.
At CES, HyperX showed off their adorable Cozy Cat Coco, which is perfectly suited for an out-of-the-way spot on the keyboard, like the escape key. The 3D printed keycap comes as a standalone offer from HyperX, not as part of any of their other keycap sets. And it works well as an escape key, facilitating the escape function when needed, and helping me escape for a moment on tough days. Coco reminds me computing and IT need not be taken as seriously as it is at times.
Explore Coco the HyperX Cozy Cat in 3D
The Cozy Cat Coco keycap sits squarely in a teal scarf decorated with snowflakes, looking up at its owner through the gap between hat and scarf, clearly looking for a rub on the one exposed ear, or perhaps a bit of salmon jerky to keep her calories up. Oh, it’s a keycap?! Perhaps it’s just sitting there waiting to ESCape (literally).
While computers were made to calculate the trajectory of spacecraft and simulate nuclear yields, more often they are used to run full throttle on imaginary racetracks, decode music, or kill pigs with tiny angry birds. Alternative keycaps make the physical experience of using the computer more enjoyable. Have some fun. If we get to test out some additional keycaps, we’ll share our joy!
