Zagg Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe 2023 Review
Summary: The Mophie 3-in-1 Charger with MagSafe 2023 has undergone significant improvements. In its latest iteration, the flannel-like case and rubber band closure loop have been replaced with a sleek, more compact design. The phone charging pad remains MagSafe and MFi Certified, offering fast wireless charging up to 15W. The Apple Watch charger accommodates nightstand mode. The package includes a chrome-tipped USB-C cable and a 30W power supply. Notably, the new zippered carrying case features improved organization, including an AirTag pocket and extra cable space. Additionally, the eco-friendly case is made from a fabric that incorporates up to 50% recycled plastic bottles.
Every trip. I mean, every trip I take includes the Mophie 3-in-1 Charger with MagSafe. The odd grey flannel-like case material was its only drawback. Functionally, the compact kit uncluttered my cable collection, bringing power to my phone, my headphones and my Apple watch. MagSafe offered precise charging for Apple devices, but the openness of its third charging pad, the one for headphones, was egalitarian. It charged any true wireless earbuds I was testing, regardless of their origin.
And then, at CES 2023, I saw the new, updated Mophie 3-in-1 Charger with MagSafe. Gone were the flannel-like case and rubber band closure loop. The sleek, new, more compact case looks worthy of a shelf at Tumi.
The phone charging pad remains MagSafe and MFi Certified with fast Wireless Charging up to 15W, the top of the iPhone charging parameters. The Apple Watch charger tilts to accommodate the watch’s nightstand mode, which makes it visible at a glance, even through groggy eyes. The package includes a chrome-tipped USB-C cable and a 30W power supply.
The 3-in-1 pad design still compactly fits into its travel case.
The big update—perhaps not enough to replace those who own the earlier version, but I think enough to push those on the fence into buying—is the new zippered carrying case with improved organization, including an AirTag pocket and extra space for cables. Even better, the eco-friendly travel case’s fabric is made from up to 50% recycled plastic bottles.
While Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe 2023 is nearly perfect, I offer three suggestions to Zagg for their next design:
- A nylon cable.
- A 45-65W GaN power supply to cover at least a tablet along with the 3-in-1 travel pad, further reducing the need for travel charging gear. (A compact 65W charger would also power most laptops.)
- A tilt on the iPhone Charger (perhaps moving it to the end) to accommodate the iPhone nightstand mode.
The first two are easy. The iPhone tilt will probably challenge the charging pads’ symmetry and easy foldability. I appreciate Zagg’s continued engineering efforts to improve products beyond pure functionality.
