PNY 128GB Duo Link iOS USB 3.2 Dual Flash Drive
Summary
PNY 128GB Duo Link iOS USB 3.2 Dual Flash Drive does just as its name suggests, providing flash memory to an iOS device via Lightning and access to that same flash memory via USB-C A on a laptop or desktop computer.
PNY 128GB Duo Link iOS USB 3.2 Dual Flash Drive, Review
As with many dual-port Flash drives, the $39.99 PNY 128GB Duo Link iOS USB 3.2 Dual Flash Drive offers an Apple Lightning connector on one end and a USB 3.2 Type-A connector on the other. With Apple’s Files, the drive requires no drivers. Simply insert the drive into an iPhone and copy or read files. A Duo Link app synchronizes files and photos automatically. The drive also comes in 64GB and 256GB versions.
Unfortunately, the PNY 128GB Duo Link iOS USB 3.2 Dual Flash Drive arrived just before Apple’s iPhone 15 announcement that did away with the Lightning port. The ideal flash drive would now combine Lighting with USB-C. There are, however, millions of now legacy devices that will continue to justify this design for some time, but the market needs a USB-C version soon. Those with all of Apple’s latest technology need only a USB-C flash drive without any of this device’s duality.
The flash drive sports well-honed aluminum. A cover flips over the USB-C port to protect it. The cover also doubles as an attachment for a key ring or other form of attachment. My only suggestion for this design is to develop another protection mechanism for the Lightning end of the drive. The plastic cover works well when in place, but it can be easily dislodged when in a bag, and its small size makes it easy to misplace.
Overall, it is a good physical backup solution for those with older iPhones, though I also recommend cloud backup.
